Okay this ones for the ladies,I need some advice. I'm 41 have been poz for about 20 years, relatively healthy, but for the last week I've been having hot flashes, and a dull headache. I know I could be close to menapause but I'm worried It might be something else. Has anyone heard of reinfection? Are there symptoms? Man I feel stupid, I guess I should call my doctor, I just get so tired of running to him with everything.

hmmm... I guess I cannot speak for you or guess what might be going on with you however, I have hot flashes ALL THE TIME!  I had to get spayed when I was 28 years young so, I have BEen dealing with menopause type things for a looooong time.  I also get really bad night sweats some times.  I mean REALLY BAD!  I wake up soaking wet in sweat and have to move to the couch or a different bed so I stop shivering from the cold wet.

I'm not so sure I buy into that whole re-infection theory, but that is just me.  I mean why does our body make anti-bodies against HIV if re-infection is a possible reality?  What use are they other than to protect us from re-infection?  I dunno?  I don't have medical evidence or scientific facts to back up my thoughts on this, I simply go with what I know.  I have had other HIV+ lovers and we did not use condoms and I never noticed any new symptoms nor has it affected my lab results so... I just do not BElieve everything that I read.

On a lighter note... I like your name.  Did you get that name from the movie "Rocky Horror Picture Show?" (damn it Janet, I want to SCREW!)  well that is a line from the movie and I have used that phrase for years, whenever I say "DAMN IT"  I always have to add the rest of the jingle.  Force of habit, that and I have issues with jingles gettting stuck in my brain like glue.

I hope you find relief from your hot flashes Janet.  There are several supplements on the market that you may find relief of your hot flashes with to include: Black Cohash, Evening Primrose Oil, Damiana, Angelica, Lecithin Granules, Gotu Kola and/or Dong Quai.

Hope this helps.

BE WELL.

sometimes my son gets fevers and breaks out in the sweats and yes he is gay, but not in menopause and there is that word again "men."  Why do they call it that for women?  and there is that word again "men."  LOL  Seriously, you are too young for hot flashes so I would defintely talk to your doctor....they get paid enough, run to him for everything.  Good luck and hope you feel better. I have never gotten away from the night sweats, am 49 and haven't done the menopause thing yet, think I might be starting but who knows. Ask you doc to do an FSH test, it is a blood test and can tell you if you are starting menopause.

think of them not as "hot flashes" but as "power surges" :-) you're kinda  young for menopause (or "mental pause" as some would say), but your ob/gyn to run a test to see if in fact you are or aren't going through it. do you have reason to believe that you could have exposed yourself to reinfection through another means (person/situation) since your original infection? often times (as youknow) people who are + think it's perfectly fine to have unprotected sex with another + (comparing it, say, to the pregnant woman having sex..."can't get any more pregnant"), but they then are likely inheriting the new person's strain of hiv and its resistence pattern, making it much more resistant to treatment...not good at all.  sometimes people just run "hot" for whatever reason...can be as simple as the foods we eat (i know i run "hot" if i consume a lot of sugar or a lot of processed foods. when i watch this closer and eat heathier, i cool down. certain foods and herbs can help to cool things off...such as ginger and dandelion tea. woulnd't hurt to give your doc a ring if it persists. better safe...
