In Defense of FUN

I find it odd that the only time we condone silliness is during birthdays or vacations that include children.  It seems that vacations with only adults involve relaxing or shopping, but not fun ACTIVITIES.

Hint: relaxing can be done at home and shopping can be done online.

Fun should be encouraged everywhere.  Perhaps employers could secure loyalty from their staff without expensive perks if they were less focused on busywork and a more humane work ethic?

The point of this section is that we think we must kill the child we were to function as adults.  Is it any wonder why so many people in their early twenties appear confused.  In their rush for the priviledges of adulthood, they sacrifice their ability to know what pleases them and gives them purpose.

It is not wrong to keep some of our innocence.

Did you look at these keychains and think how good they would taste as cakes or feel guilty at how fattening they would be?  When did our desire to be attractive end up with everyone wanting to look so thin they could be confused as a heroin addict?  If models get any younger, we will (as the quote from AbFab goes) "Be chucking fetuses down the runway".  Obesity is giving up to impossible standards.  We didn't have such a problem with it until the standards of beauty meant less than 1/100th of a percent could achieve it.

If we rejected people less on a standard of beauty difficult for a 12-year-old gymnast to achieve, and accepted that people age and gain weight, we might find fewer folks who say "Screw it, I'm gonna eat it all" or "What does it matter, they will never love me anyway?"  It's easy to blame a fat person for their eating habits, but not the hundreds of peers (and family) who treated him or her like crap until they squashed a soul.  Our society still has a stigma against holding bullies accountable for their actions.

That is why fun is an option, not a need.  We are training to kids to accept vicious people as normal.

If you are going to bother to dream, bring some of it into your waking life.  You might be surprised to find that some dreams are precursors to change.  You may be getting a glimpse of you next step.  If not, you may be getting a reprieve from tension as you wait to benefit from your last step.

Until then, find a beautiful dream and for G-d's sake REMEMBER IT.

To have fun, you must know fun people.  Not people who are fun 'under the right conditions': when everything is going their way, when they are drunk, or when they are rebelling.

Collect people who are fun when it is unexpected.  Since I am a fairly serious person around strangers and take a long time to get to know people, I offer a fair warning: I am not immediately a fun person.  I am also agoraphobic so it sometimes takes getting me alone in order for me to be relaxed enough to be silly.  However, I* know my triggers and I know my flaws.

This hasn't translated to being 'the fun one', though I often played that role.  I am contradictory and was 'the strict one' as well.  So maybe the silliness and the strictness were a balance.  I cannot see sacrificing one for the other.  I need strictness for the discipline of recouping my body from my handicap and growing as an artist.  I need silliness to balance my vision with my abilities and develop new friends in my new city.

Cake again.  Yes I have some pounds to lose and muscle to gain.  Not only for the appearance, but also to simplify the struggle of walking with canes.  My metabolism may not allow a lot of cake in it, but I can dream about it.

I have a new theme song, if only for today.  Here it is.
